Congratulations to the SHGC rowing squad on a successful 2022/2023 season.

Successful 2022-23 Season Comes to an End

The squad supported each other and pushed each other well overall, which resulted in individual and team success throughout the season. Particular kudos to the girls for the dedication they have shown this season. Returning rowers started pre-season training in June last year and learn to row started in July. Since the official start of the season in October, the girls have been training at least six times a week, have had two training camps, and have representatives at nine regattas.

Members of the SHGC rowing squad competed in four different championship regattas this season where medals were awarded and we had crews medal at all of these regattas.

At the North Island Club Championships, we placed third in the Women’s novice 4+, second in the women’s intermediate 8+, second in the Women’s club 2-, third in the Women’s novice 8+, and second in the women’s intermediate 4+.

At the New Zealand Club Championships, we placed first in the women’s intermediate 4+, and we had rowers in the Hamilton Rowing Club intermediate 8+ that placed second.

At the North Island Secondary School Championships we placed first in the Under 15 4+, and second in the Under 16 4+.

The conclusion of the AON Maadi Regatta (New Zealand Secondary Schools) on April 2nd has brought the school rowing season to a close. The Under 15 4+ and Under 18 novice 4+ enjoyed particular success, placing second and third.
