Erin’s Story

Unveiling the Journey

Sacred Heart was more than just a school for Erin; it was a place of inspiration, camaraderie, and cherished memories.

Erin attended Sacred Heart from 1998 – 2002; after many years of study, she knew she wanted to be a primary teacher. After several years teaching in the Catholic School system, Erin took up the role of Principal at St Pius X School, Melville, Hamilton, in 2024, leaving her position of Deputy Principal at Suzanne Aubert Catholic School, Papamoa, at the end of 2023.

Erin fondly recalls the captivating stories of Euphrasie Barbier and the female house saints, who served as formidable role models of strength and determination. These narratives instilled in her a deep sense of purpose and resilience, shaping her future endeavours as a teacher and educational leader.

"The library was a favourite place. My friendship group was tight, and we spent much of our spare time there—our lunchtime hangout place."

Returning to Sacred Heart years later, Erin was struck by the transformation of her beloved library into the bustling administration block, a testament to the passage of time and the evolution of the school.

Sister Pauline (Principal) stands out among the many influential figures at Sacred Heart as a guiding light in Erin’s life. Her impassioned talks and unwavering support for inclusivity left a lasting impression on Erin, inspiring her to embrace diversity and compassion in her own journey. Recalling her school years, Erin fondly reminisces about the electrifying atmosphere of Sacred Heart Day Concerts, where the entire hall would erupt excitedly at the sight of special guests like Havoc and Newsboy. These moments of collective joy and camaraderie were etched into her memory, symbolising the vibrant spirit of Sacred Heart.

Despite the occasional mishaps, such as classroom evacuations due to mysterious odours or fashion parade disasters involving unravelling toilet paper creations, Erin’s time at Sacred Heart was filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable experiences.

The legacy of Sacred Heart lives on in Erin’s life and career. The school’s emphasis on faith, learning, and community laid the foundation for her journey as an educator and leader. From her beginnings as a primary teacher to her position as Principal, Erin’s journey is shaped by the principles she absorbed during her formative years at Sacred Heart.

As Erin embarks on this new chapter at St Pius X School, she carries the enduring legacy of Sacred Heart—a legacy of faith, friendship, and the pursuit of excellence. And though her journey may take her to new and unfamiliar shores, the lessons learned and memories shared at Sacred Heart will forever remain a source of inspiration and strength.

“Sacred Heart was a joyous place for me – a huge milestone in my life and a treasured memory. The friendships I made have remained and are a major part of my life – we are all still closely connected.”
