Tāniko

We have created time throughout the year when all Year 9 and 10 students will learn about being a Sacred Heart student – “Be a Part of Sacred Heart”.

We have called this “Tāniko” to reflect the uniquely Māori art of weaving. The tāniko is used to decorate the borders of fine garments such as the Korawai (cloak), which strengthens the garment itself.

This time is a deliberate effort to “weave” our Faith and Culture through waiata, Karakia, haka, O Sacred Heart (school song), the story of the Mission Sisters journey to New Zealand, our school crest and its symbolism. We continue to develop and strengthen our local knowledge that contributes to our “place-based curriculum”.
