Gateway

In school, Gateway is a skill-based, interactive programme with short and long-term goal setting and career discussions, including strengths and weaknesses, fears and values. Students develop their own skill set by completing a one-day-a-week placement for between 3–10 weeks. During this time they develop a stronger sense of self and reflect on their experiences resulting in personal growth and understanding. Students gain a First Aid certificate and a Health and Safety certificate, as well as completing appropriate NCEA standards. Students can also complete short courses relevant to their career pathway plan such as barista, forklift driving, teamwork and leadership, Police and Armed Forces. 

We have an impressive track record of successful placements in work experience through the Gateway programme, where students spend time with employers to help decide their future options. We are grateful to our wonderful community of employers and organisations who provide a supportive and professional environment for our students. PLEASE NOTE: Numbers are limited for the Gateway programme. Students can apply and will be interviewed by our Gateway Coordinator to be sure that they are students who will benefit from the programme and that we can meet their needs and provide placements for them.
